Environmental Specification
Environmental Test Flow
Programs using JAS should practice testing per industry standards wherever possible.
The following tests and operational environments shall be applied to the components or structure in the following order. Events 1 through 5 shall be used for qualification acceptance testing. Events 1-6 shall be considered for fatigue calculations.
1) 24ea, thermal cycles per the thermal survival requirements
2) 1ea, static pull test shall be executed to qualify the components’ strength for workmanship. A Strength testing plan shall be created to test each bonded part, if they exist in the design, to the Load Limits with the Static pull test. A tap test and modal before and after is required to verify compliance.
3) 3ea, random vibration at 1 minute per axis at the Acceptance level, on the entire structure; these represent:
- 1 ea, Acceptance Test Program (ATP)
- 1 ea, equivalent total Ground Handling environment
- 1 ea, Flight environment
4) 3 ea, random vibration at 1 minute per axis at the Protoflight level as a built assembly; these represent:
- component ATPs (1ea per component)
- 1 ea, unit ATP
- 1 ea, unit ATP retest
5) Shock per system specification.
6) Thermal Cycling
- On orbit thermal environment for 10 years
- 120 day test duration (60 days of testing w/ FOS 2)
Thermal testing shall be performed to ensure structure will meet all requirements at the survival temperatures shown in the following sections. Bolted interfaces shall have the same material and stiffness across the interfaces to verify compliance.
